Our last quarter’s KoTQ winner was long standing forum member Raytheater. Ray’s been popping in and out of Drumrock since the beginning and is always willing to try and jump in and get things moving with regards to discussion on our forums. His RMV’s are a great set of drums to look at and I’m betting they’re great to play!
Drumrock: Why RMV over a major manufacturer?
Raytheater: When I bought a house, I read many many reviews trying to find that perfect first drumset. A Modern Drummer review of RMV caught my attention. I like underdogs too, but the buy was risky. Initially, RMV had problems delivering drums to the buyers. I was just happy that I got mine...and 650 dollars later the drums arrived and the review was right. The drums are great!
Drumrock: Is there anything about your kit configuration you would change?
Raytheater: I would change the mounting system in a heartbeat. The mounting system works but the screws or tightening the screws too much would destroy the mounting bracket system. I love the small cymbals, my ears and my neighbors love them too. Will add a couple of Sabian Choppers later. I love having 3 different sounding drums around me. The left one is super fat (think 80s ballad), the middle one is super tight (think Portnoy on Awake CD), the right one is tight with snare off.
Drumrock: Do you practice regularly? If so how often and what does your routine consist of?
Raytheater: I do try to, usually about 3-4 hours a week. Now that I am married and have a stepson that I have to play Mario Party 8 with, time is hard to come by. I usually have a riff or music in my mind and I try to fill it with a beat... usually odd time.
Drumrock: Who’s your biggest influence with regards to drumming?
Raytheater: My biggest influence is Mike Portnoy. When I heard that opening drum intro to the Awake CD, I changed my listening habits.

Drumrock: If you could meet any famous drummer who would it be? Why?
Raytheater: I met Mike Portnoy and he was fantastic. He signed my program book and was very friendly. Funny, Steve Vai had to follow Dream Theater. The first thing Steve Vai said was," How could you possibly follow that?" My sympathy Mr Vai.
Drumrock: Who do you think would win? Chuck Norris or Mr. T?
Raytheater: They both will bleed and ask for mercy from Tony Jaa. To understand why, please watch Ong Pak and the Protector.
Thanks Raytheater for participating and your long standing participation here! He wins a $35.00 Musicians Friend gift certificate!
